Electrolysis Hair Removal  in London

The Only FDA-Approved Method for 100% Permanent Hair Removal

What Is Electrolysis Hair Removal?

Electrolysis is the only clinically recognised method of permanent hair removal, suitable for all skin tones and hair types, including fine, light and hormonally driven hair.

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that uses a fine probe to deliver a controlled electrical current directly into the hair follicle. This destroys the follicle’s ability to produce hair, preventing regrowth.

Unlike laser hair removal, which targets pigment, electrolysis works independently of melanin. This makes it effective for all hair colours, including blonde, red, grey, and white hairs, as well as all skin types.

Electrolysis is particularly suited for:

  • Small, precise areas
  • Hormonal hair growth (such as chin or jawline)
  • Residual hair after laser treatment
  • Clients seeking permanent, targeted results

At Ace Skin Health Clinic, electrolysis is carried out with precision using advanced Sterex technology by a practitioner trained to the highest standards and who is a member of the British Institute & Association of Electrolysis (BIAE), ensuring safe, effective, and regulated treatment.

About Hair removal

What Electrolysis Hair Removal Can Help With

  • Permanent removal of unwanted hair
  • Fine, light, or grey hairs (not suitable for laser)
  • Facial hair (chin, upper lip, cheeks, eyebrows)
  • Small, precise areas requiring accuracy
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Hormonal hair growth (e.g. PCOS-related)
  • Hair around sensitive areas
  • Stubborn hairs remaining after laser treatments
  • Prevention of regrowth in targeted follicles
  • Improving skin clarity by removing visible hair

How Laser Skin Rejuvenation Works

A sterile, ultra-fine probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A controlled electrical current is then applied to destroy the cells and blood supply responsible for hair growth. The treated hair is gently removed with tweezers.

There are three main types of electrical current used in electrolysis, and the method is selected according to hair type, depth, and skin characteristics.

At Ace Skin Health Clinic, the appropriate modality and the choice of probe is selected based on your hair growth pattern, skin sensitivity and treatment area. This ensures that each follicle is treated as effectively as possible while maintaining skin integrity.

Because electrolysis treats each hair individually, it is a precise and progressive process. Multiple sessions are required to target hairs during their active growth phase, leading to permanent removal over time.

Thermolysis (Shortwave / Diathermy)

Thermolysis uses high-frequency alternating current to generate heat within the follicle. This heat quickly and efficiently destroys the hair growth cells. It is the fastest method and is particularly effective for fine to medium hair and for treating larger areas with multiple hairs.

Galvanic (Direct Current)

Galvanic electrolysis uses a direct electrical current to induce a chemical reaction within the follicle, producing sodium hydroxide (lye), which gradually destroys the hair root. Although it is a slower method, it can be very effective for coarser, distorted, or deeper follicles.

Blend Method

The blend method combines thermolysis and galvanic currents, using heat and chemical action together to destroy the follicle. This approach is often used for stubborn, hormonally influenced, or deeper hairs, as it provides a more thorough treatment of the follicle.

Types of Probes (Electrodes)

At Ace Skin Health Clinic, we select the type of probe carefully to match your skin and hair characteristics, ensuring both effectiveness and skin protection.

Insulated probes are designed to concentrate the current at the base of the follicle while protecting the surface layers of the skin. This makes them particularly suitable for sensitive areas and skin prone to pigmentation, as they reduce unnecessary heat spread.

Gold probes are ideal for clients with sensitive, reactive, or allergy-prone skin, especially those with nickel sensitivity. Gold is highly biocompatible and reduces the risk of irritation while maintaining effective treatment.

Stainless probes are widely used and highly effective for most skin types. They offer excellent conductivity and precision, making them suitable for a broad range of electrolysis treatments.

Treatment Areas & When to Choose Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a highly precise method of permanent hair removal, suitable for both men and women and adaptable to all treatment areas on the face and body.

Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis is effective on all skin tones and hair colours, including blonde, red, grey, and white hair. This makes it the preferred option when laser is unsuitable or when residual hairs remain after a course of laser treatments.

Electrolysis is also commonly chosen for hormonally driven hair growth, such as hair on the chin or jawline, where long-term permanent removal is the goal. It plays an important role in facial feminisation treatments, where precise shaping and complete clearance are required to achieve soft, refined results.

It is also the safest and most appropriate option for areas that cannot be treated with laser, such as around the eyebrows, where precision is critical and surrounding structures require protection.

This treatment is ideal for clients seeking a permanent solution rather than reduction, and for those who wish to address specific areas with precision, including shaping, correction, or complete removal.

Our Personalised Approach

At Ace Skin Health Clinic, electrolysis hair removal is always tailored to your skin and hair type. Each treatment begins with a detailed assessment of hair growth patterns, hormonal influences, and skin sensitivity, enabling us to provide safe, precise, and permanent hair removal while protecting skin integrity.

As a member of the British Institute & Association of Electrolysis (BIAE), we adhere to recognised clinical standards in electrolysis, ensuring high levels of hygiene, safety, and treatment accuracy. We use advanced Sterex technology, which allows precise control of current and modality selection, including thermolysis, galvanic, and blend techniques.

Each treatment is further customised using appropriate probe types, including insulated and gold probes for sensitive or pigmentation-prone skin. This minimises irritation, reduces the risk of pigmentation, and achieves consistent, long-term results.

We focus on effective follicle destruction, minimal skin trauma, and progressive permanent hair removal, delivered at a pace that suits your skin and ensures optimal healing throughout your treatment journey.

FAQs

At Ace Skin Health Clinic, we believe informed clients achieve the best results. These FAQs cover the most common questions about our approach, safety standards, and treatment process, so you can book with confidence and clarity.

Still have questions?

Get in touch with our team and we will answer all of your questions before you book a session.

Is electrolysis permanent?

Yes. Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that provides permanent results when performed correctly and consistently.

Does electrolysis hurt?

You may experience a mild heat or stinging sensation during treatment. This varies depending on the area and your sensitivity, but is generally well tolerated.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the area, hair density, and growth cycle. Regular sessions are required initially, with the frequency decreasing as hair growth reduces.

Can electrolysis treat hormonal hair growth?

Yes. Electrolysis is particularly effective for hormonally driven hair, such as chin and jawline hair associated with PCOS.

Is electrolysis safe for all skin tones?

Yes. Because it does not rely on pigment, electrolysis is safe for all skin types when performed properly. Melanin rich skin we advise to prep the skin prior.

Is there downtime?

There is minimal downtime. Mild redness or small pinpoint marks may appear temporarily and usually settle quickly.

Do I need to prepare my skin before starting electrolysis?

In most cases, minimal preparation is required. However, for clients with melanin-rich or pigmentation-prone skin, we recommend a period of skin preparation before starting treatment. This may include barrier-supportive skincare and, where appropriate, melanin-regulating products to help reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation and ensure the skin responds optimally.

Can I have electrolysis if I have PCOS?

Yes. Electrolysis is one of the most effective treatments for hormonal hair growth, including hair associated with PCOS. As it targets each follicle individually, it provides a reliable long-term solution. Treatment may require ongoing sessions initially, depending on hormonal activity, but it remains the gold standard for permanent removal.

Can men have electrolysis?

Yes, absolutely. Electrolysis is suitable for both men and women. Male clients often choose it for precise hair removal, shaping, or correction, especially in areas where laser treatment is unsuitable or where a permanent, targeted result is desired.
